Former Kenya Film and Classification Board Chief Executive Officer, Ezekiel Mutua, has landed a new job.
In a statement dated Monday, March 28, Mutua - christened the Moral Cop - was appointed the new CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).
Mutua officially started his new duties on Friday, March 25, following a rigorous interview exercise in which he emerged top.
"The Board of Directors of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, MBS, as its Chief Executive Officer, effective Friday 25th March 2022.
"Dr Mutua's appointment follows rigorous competitive interviews in which he emerged top among the candidates who were interviewed for the position," read the statement in part.
In the statement, the organisation noted that Mutua was the most qualified owing to his background in the media industry.
"In the course of his career, he has risen through the ranks from Trainee Reporter ( 1994 ) to Sub - Editor ( 1998 ) at the Nation Media Group, Secretary-General of Kenya Union of Journalists ( 2001-2007 ), Director of Information & Public Communications ( 2007-2011 ), Information Secretary ( 2011-2015 ) and Chief Executive Officer of the
Kenya Film Classification Board ( 2015-2021 ).
"In December 2010 , Dr. Mutua was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear ( MBS ) by
Road President Mwai Kibaki for his outstanding role in streamlining Government Communications during his
tenure as Director of Information and Public Communications," added the statement
Mutua was shown the door at KFCB in August 2021.
During his dismissal, ICT CS Joe Mucheru reportedly faulted Mutua and the KFCB board’s chairperson for asking an Inspector General of State Corporations to leave during the board’s meeting on June 30 which is against the State Corporation Act.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) also launched an investigation after Mutua was accused of receiving irregular payments in terms of salaries and allowances. In the statement dated May 6, EACC stated that a board member, Ms Gathoni Kungu, was also under investigation.
A confidential letter addressed to CS Mucheru had also leaked online on July 23, 2021, exposing boardroom wrangles at the KFCB.
In his exit message, Mutua thanked his family and friends for their prayers and words of encouragement following his forced exit from the government agency.
