The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has responded to a recruitment advertisement seeking to hire electoral officers ahead of the August 9 polls.
The advert, which was making rounds on social media on Tuesday, March 29, claimed that the electoral body was recruiting staff to help with the execution of the election.
IEBC, however, flagged it as fake, further advising Kenyans that it was not recruiting at the moment and cautioned Kenyans against being duped.
In the advert, various positions to oversee the August 9 polls were declared vacant with applicants instructed on how to put in their applications through an online portal.
Most notably, in the advert, over 200,000 posts for polling clerks were declared vacant with the successful applicants being promised a Ksh1,000 stipend for every workday.
"IEBC is seeking to employ 261,665 polling counting clerks who will work for 9 days on a payment of Ksh1,000 every day," read the advert.
Other positions advertised included the position of presiding officers, returning officers, and logistic managers.
Upon flagging the advert as fake, some Kenyans responded to the post revealing that they had lost their hard-earned money as the advert directed them to a site that required them to pay some amount before beginning the application process.
"I am so shocked. I have just lost my money like that," he stated.
Other online users also urged the electoral body to reveal the dates it would declare vacant the much-anticipated positions ahead of the August 9 polls.
Many Kenyans have in the past lost their money through well-organised fraud syndicates who fake job adverts.
Additionally, some of the fraud schemes also obtain the personal information of Kenyans that is used for other activities.
