A multi-agency team was deployed to flush out suspects behind the attack on a policewoman in Hakika Estate, Magongo area in Mombasa County.

Detectives investigating the case detailed that they were probing a robbery with violence matter, stating that they suspected the aggressors were hiding in the estate.

A police report filed at Changamwe Police Station on Tuesday, March 29 at around 8am, indicated that the police constable was attacked at around 5:30am of the same day.

The cop attached to Makupa Police Station was reported to have been ambushed by a gang of three people while leaving her house.

“She was attacked by three men armed with machetes. The Police Constable sustained serious injuries on her head and a cut on the right arm,” the report reads in part.

Police further noted that the gang robbed her of her property, including a police uniform.

“They snatched her handbag containing her police uniform- Berret, name tag, ceremonial belt and other personal items.”

The situation could have worsened, save for members of the public who intervened and saved her from the attackers.

She was rushed to a nearby medical centre where she was admitted.

Police suspected that the ambush was well orchestrated and that the gang may have tracked her for days to understand her routine.

They added that the uniform may be used to commit crimes by imposters or be traded at a cheap fee.

“Scene visited and necessary action was taken. Investigations were launched and efforts to arrest the culprits are in progress,” the police noted, adding that they raised their level of alertness.
