Kenya Kwanza Alliance co-principals have announced that they will move a motion to compel Auditor General Nancy Gathungu to audit public funds used to bankroll Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Speaking at a media briefing on Friday, April 1, Amani Congress National (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi alleged that the BBI task force used north of Ksh10 billion of taxpayers' money to fund the process.

"We are aware that the Building Bridges Initiative task force spent approximately Ksh10 billion of public money purportedly for collecting public views," Mudavadi remarked.

He added, "our members at the National Assembly are moving a motion compelling the Auditor General to carry out a forensic audit on all public funds spent in the illegal process from conception to date."

Justifying the move to call for the audit, the principals argued that the money used in the process was not approved by the National Assembly.

The trio insisted that BBI promoters should be held accountable for their actions in initiating the constitutional change which was rendered null and void by the Supreme Court.

Flanking Mudavadi at the presser were Deputy President William Ruto, Ford-Kenya party leader, Moses Wetangula, and politicians allied with their alliance.

The statement comes just a day after Ruto asked both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader to apologise for crafting the bill.

Speaking in Lamu on Thursday, March 31, Ruto argued that the government diverted its agenda, focusing on BBI which failed to materialise.

“We want to tell our Handskake brothers that the BBI fraud they feasted on the people of Kenya, has been confirmed by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional,  null and void, the Handshake brothers need to apologise to the people of Kenya,” Ruto stated.

He added that the BBI process led to the stalling of the Big Four Agenda.

"They have wasted four years of our time, they have sabotaged the Big 4 plans that were going to give jobs to our people in favour of fraudulent exercise meant to satisfy the selfish interests of a few people.

"We want to tell them the least we expect from the promoters of the BBI is for them to own up and apologize to the people of Kenya," Ruto remarked.

Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, nonetheless welcomed the ruling issued by the Supreme Court.

In a statement issued on Thursday, March 31, Raila said that despite the apex ruling against the BBI, it upheld its content and the public participation exercise.
