The government has recovered properties valued at over Ksh30 billion from influential individuals in the latest purge on corruption.

According to the report presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, April 5 at State House, Nairobi, the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) stated that it had recovered the property in the fight against graft.

The anti-graft body reclaimed land that was irregularly allocated to powerful individuals through collusion with government officials at the Ministry of Lands.

EACC listed at least 14 properties registered under the National Treasury valued at Ksh603 million shillings that has been recovered.

Additionally, the anti-graft body has reclaimed 222 hectares of land belonging to Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO) worth Ksh2 billion. The land, which was meant for potato research, had been fraudulently allocated to shadow individuals but the matter was settled out of court and the title deed reclaimed by the government.

Kenya Railways Corporation had lost land in Kisumu worth Ksh2 billion. The case pitting 69 hectares of land located near the port of Kisumu was settled out of court and the title deed was surrendered.

The commission further recovered 21 hectares of land belonging to the Metrological Department of Kenya valued at Ksh5 billion. The land is located along Mombasa Road behind the Panari Hotel.

The land was allegedly allocated to a family residing in the United Kingdom in a scheme orchestrated by other government employees. The land was, however, recovered and handed over to the government.

Kenya School of Government had also lost its three prime parcels of land to another powerful businesswoman. But the court established that some government officials had fraudulently apportioned the land to a private citizen.

Other properties recovered include 16 parcels of land valued at Ksh64 million located in Uasin Gishu and another parcel valued at Ksh30 million belonging to Nakuru County.

Uhuru also received Ksh450 million that was repatriated from Jersey Islands from corrupt Kenyans.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday at State House, Nairobi signed into law five parliamentary bills among them the 2022 Supplementary I Appropriation Bill (Supplementary Budget).
