The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has summoned three seasoned politicians over the chaos that rocked Embu town where nomination materials destined for Mt Kenya East were destroyed by angry residents.

In summon letters dated Wednesday, April 13, the three are accused of taking part in the 'wilful arson' as well as the incitement of the public against the party primaries that are currently underway.

The party - in the summons - argues that it had video footage showing the three participating in the criminal act.

The three, Norman Nyaga, Margaret Lorna Kariuki (Nominated Member of County Assembly) and John Muchiri (Manyatta MP), are supposed to appear before the UDA Disciplinary Committee.

"The Disciplinary Committee of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA ) Party is in receipt of a complaint against you relating to the wilful criminal arson and destruction of party poll materials and incitement of the public against the Party that took place outside The Izaak Walton Inn within Embu town on Wednesday 13th April 2022 .

"The party is seized with video footage ( forwarded herewith ) as well as information, material and other evidence which links you with the aforementioned criminal activity in gross violation of the Party Constitution and Code of Conduct," read the summon letters in part.

The party further cautioned that incase the trio is found guilty by the committee they risk disqualification from the race.

"Further, be informed that if the accusations against you as hereinabove specified are proved at the hearing, the consequences thereof are grave and include disqualification from participating in the Nomination Process, suspension or even expulsion from the Party.

"In accordance with Article 29.1 you may represent yourself in person or you may bring along another member of the Party to represent you provided that such representative is a UDA Party Member or an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya," added the statement.

A lorry ferrying nomination materials was on Wednesday ransacked and the ballot boxes and papers burnt in Embu town.

Earlier on, aspirants in Embu addressed the media where they made counter-allegations over reports of rigging plans.

In an earlier address, Muchiri, also a close associate of the Deputy President William Ruto, called on the party to be transparent in managing the Thursday primaries.
