The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has acquired a new office block that will serve as its headquarters ahead of the August 9 polls.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, April 13, Wanjohi Githae, the UDA Communications Director, stated that the party affiliated with Deputy President William Ruto had acquired the EduLink building located along Ngong Road.

Githae stated that the new headquarters will host offices for the party secretariat that is charged with the responsibility or running the day-to-day affairs of the party.

He noted that the party did not acquire the offices only for use in the run-up to the August elections adding that the building will be used as the UDA offices moving forward.

"The reports are true. The building will host offices for the secretariat and it will be a permanent office," Githae stated.

Currently, the Ruto-led party has its Hustler Center offices in Nairobi's upmarket Kilimani estate

The party has already started renovating the newly acquired block as it prepares to move in.

Githae, however, did not give an answer on whether the party had bought or leased the office block, neither did he mention the cost of the acquisition.

UDA was registered in December 2020 after the Registrar of Political Parties through a Gazette Notice announced that Party of Development and Reforms (PDR) had changed its name to United Democratic Alliance and the symbol would be a wheelbarrow.

"In exercise of the power conferred by section 20 (1) (d) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that the Party of Development and Reform (PDR) intend to effect changes on their particulars as follows; slogan from Mabadiliko na Ustawi to Kazi ni Kazi" the notice read in part.

This was at the height of a fallout between Ruto and his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In October 2021, the party announced 31 officials to run its affairs, naming former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama as its chair and Veronica Maina as the Secretary-General.
