Comedian Jasper Muthomi alias MC Jessy has announced that he is still in the race for the South Imenti parliamentary seat.

In a press briefing on Monday, April 18, Jessy revealed that he would vie as an independent candidate in the August 9 polls. He noted that he was not consulted to take up a position in DP Ruto's presidential campaign team.

The comedian, however, expressed that he would still support the DP in his quest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Sent like an arrow from a mighty man’s hand. We keep going. Bado Tuko kwa race. Let’s do this South Imenti, 9th August it is."

"Thank you my boss HE the Deputy President Dr William Ruto for your counsel. My support for you remains Intact," he stated.

Efforts by Kenyans.co.ke to reach Jessy for further comments on the matter were futile as calls went unanswered.

DP Ruto had on April 13, 2022, announced that MC Jessy had shelved his parliamentary ambitions in the favour of Mwiti Kathaara following consensus talks.

The second-in-command went on to reveal that Jessy would instead join his campaign team in readiness for the upcoming General Election.

"MC Jessy (Jasper Muthomi) will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favor of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat," Ruto stated.

MC Jessy officially joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) outfit in January 2022 and announced his support for Ruto's presidential bid.

"It’s now clear where the vision is heading. After many days of consultative meetings with my South Imenti people, I have officially been invited to join UDA," Jessy stated at the time.

This comes as a section of UDA politicians claimed that the party primaries were marred with irregularities, with a section of disgruntled aspirants threatening to ditch the party.

Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga also ditched the party and announced that he would vie as an independent candidate.
