Deputy President William Ruto has announced that comedian Jasper Muthomi alias MC Jessy has given up his parliamentary ambitions.
The DP on Wednesday, April 13, stated that after consultations, MC Jessy decided to drop his parliamentary bid in favour of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat.
The comedian was set to face off against Kathaara in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, April 14.
MC Jessy will now join DP Ruto's presidential campaign team after he dropped his bid in favour of Kathaara.
"MC Jessy (Jasper Muthomi) will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favor of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat," the DP tweeted.
In January, MC Jessy announced he had officially joined the United Democratic Alliance, after wider consultations and he will be supporting DP William Ruto's presidential bid.
Photos shared by the UDA party on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 19, showed Ruto receiving the comedian to the Hustler Movement while all smiles.
“It’s now clear where the vision is heading. After many days of consultative meetings with my South Imenti people, I have officially been invited to join UDA.
The comedian joined the 2022 Parliamentary race in November after he received an endorsement from the constituency's elders.
"This weekend, I was grateful and humbled by the elders that raised me and who are from my home constituency of South Imenti when they honoured and bestowed on me the blessings and responsibilities to lead South Imenti Constituency as the Member Of Parliament," he announced at the time.
Although some contestants have decided to drop out of the race, UDA made Ksh350 million in nomination fees. This was from at least 5,000 aspirants eyeing different political seats ahead of party primaries set to take place between April 9 and April 16.
UDA party received 54 gubernatorial applications, with each aspirant coughing Ksh500,000 totalling Ksh.27 million.
It bagged a cool Ksh16 million from tens of aspirants, eyeing senatorial positions.
Those seeking to vie for parliamentary seats including county women representatives and members of parliament added Ksh145 million, and Members of County Assembly aspirants contributed at least Ksh.158 million.
The scramble for UDA's party nomination has seen regions like Rift Valley, Mount Kenya, Western, Eastern, and the Coast register higher numbers. As a result, major metropolitan cities like Nairobi and Nakuru attracted huge numbers.
