KURA Announces Mass Auction of Luxury Cars Countrywide, How to bid

Kenyans seeking to own luxury cars can now submit their bids after the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) put their cars on public auction.

In a notice dated Tuesday, May 3, the Authority announced that the auction will take place across 11 locations between Wednesday, May 18 and Friday, May 27.

Scheduled to kick off at 10:00 a.m., the exercise will begin at KURA Headquarters between Wednesday, May 18 and Friday, May 20.

On May 23, the bids will be open for applicants in Upper Eastern Region and will take place at Gakoromone Road Camp.

In North-Eastern, the exercise will take place off Kismayu Road opposite NEP Girls on May 25 while in Lower Eastern, it will be at the Public Works Building in Machakos on May 26.

At the Coast, the auction will take place at the Public Works Building in Shimanzi on May 27 while in Nairobi, the exercise will be at the Machakos Road in Industrial Area on May 18.

In Central, the auction will take place at Public Works Offices along Kaburuni Road in Nyeri on May 19 while in South Rift, it will be at Public Works Building in Nakuru on May 20.

In North Rift, the exercise will happen at Pioneer-NYS-Langas Road in Eldoret on May 23. In Western, it will be at KURA Western Region office in Kakamega on May 25 while in Nyanza, it will be at the Public Works Grounds in Kisumu.

Some of the cars up for auction include five Ford Rangers valued between Ksh500,000 and Ksh1.1 million, three Mitsubishi Lancers valued slightly over Ksh400,000 each and Chevrolet Cruizes.

Yamaha motorcycles are also on sale ranging between Ksh10,000 and Ksh200,000. Other items that are up for auction include assorted computers, worn-out tyres and office furniture.

How to Bid

Viewing of all the inventory kicked off on Wednesday, May 4, and those interested in purchasing vehicles will have to pay a refundable fee of Ksh50,000 per vehicle. Motorcycle fees stand at Ksh10,000.

"Payment should be made by May 16, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. This will facilitate the bidder being issued with a biding number to be produced on the bidding day.

"The bidding number will be issued on the auction day upon producing evidence of payment of the required amount before being allowed to bid," read the statement in part.

Successful bidders will have to pay 25 per cent of the purchase price at the fall of the hammer on auction day.
