Deputy President, William Ruto, has accused his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, of employing their 2017 tactics in his course of drumming up support for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya presidential hopeful, Raila Odinga.

Speaking in Busia County on Friday, May 6, the Deputy President argued that his boss had resorted to tainting his name and branding him a bad person, a strategy they used against Raila in 2013 and 2017.

Ruto argued that Uhuru was painting him as an incompetent leader so as to influence the voters ahead of the August 9 polls.

He maintained that he accomplished all the tasks that were assigned to him, further daring the President and the opposition to mention a task he did not accomplish.

Fisi akitaka kula watoto wake husema wananuka kama mbuzi (When a hyena wants to eat its cubs, it claims they smell like a goat). That is what the President did to forsake me.

“I want to ask them to point out any single assignment, any advice or any call that the President directed to my office and failed. I have discharged all responsibilities that the President directed to me or to my office accordingly," he stated.

He insisted that he will not resign even as pressure from the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party mounts on him, rather insisting that he helped the President achieve his goals.

During the Labour Day celebrations on May 1, Uhuru hit out at the DP for abandoning him when he needed him the most, further thanking Raila for coming to his aid.

He accused the DP of politicising economic challenges that were caused by international problems such as the Russia - Ukraine war and the global pandemic.

Prior to joining Azimio, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi revealed that the Jubilee Party developed a strategy to taint Raila's name to secure their win in 2017. Ruto argues that this is the strategy his boss has resorted to.

“In order for us to retain our presidency in the General Election of 2007 during Mwai Kibaki’s campaign and 2017 during President Uhuru's candidature, we came up with some fictitious narratives that damaged Raila’s reputation in the region.

“Kibaki has retired from politics and Uhuru is not going to run for the presidency come 2022. Now the time is ripe to sell Jakom (Raila) in the region,” he stated.
