Wanjiru further disclosed that Karua took over the leadership mantle in the family adding that her public service record will speak for itself should the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga considers her candidature.

"Since the time she began politics, I saw that God brought her to this world with a purpose because she has demonstrated leadership from a tender age. In the family, she was the one who organised things and the others would follow what she would say.

"I cannot say that I will not be happy. In case she is picked God willing, I will say hallelujah because God will see that she is capable. I will not boast about it because she is a child of God working for God's children," she stated.

On her part, Mary Nyamu, Waiguru's mother asserted that the Kirinyaga governor would make a good a Deputy President for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, William Ruto in the event he is elected as President in August.

She stated that her daughter was an experienced civil servant, having served in various positions, including that of the Devolution Cabinet Secretary before being elected among the only three female governors in 2017.

On influencing her daughter's decision for the running mate position, Nyamu stated that Waiguru makes her political decisions independently expressing that she supports her ambitions all the time.

"What she sees is okay, I cannot deny it. All I can do is bless her. I cannot reprimand her because that is what she has chosen. If she thinks she will manage, that is good.

"I will be very happy because she has come from far. Her father used to call her chief because she was always there to prevent bad things from happening," she stated.

Karua and Waiguru are considered among the front runners for the running mate position in the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza factions. The Narc Kenya leader appeared before the  Azimio advisory panel on Monday, May 9 for the ongoing vetting in search of a suitable candidate to deputise Odinga.
