Six people have been arrested for heckling and pelting stones at Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party running mate, Martha Wangari Karua, during her tour of Kirinyaga county last week.
The six have been produced before a Kirinyaga court and charged with causing disturbance as well as endangering the lives of other Kenyans.
Karua, while visiting Kirinyaga last week upon being named Raila Odinga's running mate, was met by a hostile group of youths who attempted to disrupt her meeting.
This saw Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, issue a stern warning to those disrupting meetings of persons they do not support in the August 9 polls.
Kirinyaga Central Deputy County Commissioner, Daniel Ndege, warned of stern action against anyone found culpable of causing chaos during the electioneering period.
Ndege also cautioned politicians against using young people to cause chaos noting that the government will not tolerate incitement during the campaign season.
Kibicho had directed the Kirinyaga County Commissioner to get rid of the hooligans, failure to which he threatened to fire him.
The tough-speaking PS, who accused governor Anne Waiguru and MCA James Murango of hiring goons to heckle Karua said Kirinyaga must be a model county when it comes to political tolerance.
"We cannot be silly and intolerant that people who come here to campaign are met by hooligans and goons who cause havoc. County commissioners take note of these hooligans, and if they are seen in Kirinyaga in a month's time, you will find other jobs," Kibicho warned.
"We cannot have a Kirinyaga where there is no law and order. We cannot be examples of where hooligans come from. Plan your rallies and speak to the public, and if they agree with your agenda, they will choose you, if they don't, they will not."
Kibicho claimed that the governor Waiguru, in collaboration with MCA Murango, buy alcohol for the youth and instruct them to disrupt the competitors' meetings by heckling the speakers.
The Interior PS challenged the governor to face him one-on-one if she has a problem with other leaders campaigning in the area, warning Waiguru that her brand of the campaign was unhealthy.
"Why are you people giving our youth alcohol? It is Waiguru and Murango and I don't want to hide that. I don't fear them, why are they hiding? Come here with your goons and let us face each other instead of giving our youth alcohol and bhang and you call yourself a leader. Shame on you," he stated.
