Wiper Party presidential running mate Andrew Sunkuli on Tuesday, May 24, weighed in on the relationship between Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party flagbearer, Raila Odinga, and Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka.

Sunkuli, in an interview on Citizen TV, noted that Kalonzo expressly instructed him to ensure his allies respect Raila and desist from attacking him prior to flying out of the country to the United Kingdom.

Kalonzo's running mate added that the two leaders also enjoyed a cordial relationship despite differing on the running mate position.

"Kalonzo gave me a couple of assignments to do towards our candidature but he said 'I do not want to hear anything bad spoken about Raila', so I suspect deep down there is no remorse, "Sunkuli stated.

Questioned on whether he was privy to Kalonzo's fallout with Raila, Sunkuli played coy, arguing that he was then a Narok County Senatorial aspirant and was not at the discussion table where the deal between the duo failed to materialise.

He, nonetheless, admitted that he was confused by the current political undertones and that he was waiting for Kalonzo's directives and would support him no matter what.

"I cannot say that I know what's happening in depth because it is the public domain and I only know what everybody knows. This is a bizarre year and you should expect a few twists and turns before the train steadies.

“If he (Kalonzo) decides to choose the country and work with Odinga, I will do the same to support his decision but that is not where we are at the moment. Right now we are in the race,” he noted.

However, he insisted that the Wiper leader was hell-bent on maintaining his stance and would run for the Presidency if not convinced to support Raila.

On May 23, a section of leaders from the Wiper party asked Kalonzo to reconsider his presidential bid, with Organizing Secretary Robert Mbui assuring that the party was ready to back Azimio under a structured dialogue.

"We want to be part of the new Kenya going forward but we need structured discussions as what is being offered is only in the media. We want Azimio to know that the issue is about Wiper as a party, and not Kalonzo as people have made it to be," Mbui stated.

Kalonzo is expected to set the record straight upon his return from Europe.
