Nairobi Senator, Johnson Sakaja, has disputed controversies regarding his academic certificates, noting he was sufficiently qualified to contest for the county's gubernatorial seat.

Speaking outside Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices on Tuesday, June 7, Sakaja noted that the documents he had presented were the same documents he used during the 2017 General Election to vie for the Senate seat.

He disputed the controversies surrounding the validity of his academic certificates, noting that they ought to be treated as inaccurate.

"I am sufficiently qualified, the documents I presented are the same documents I presented in 2017 to vie for Senator, so I have been cleared to vie for Nairobi governor," he affirmed.

The Senator also alluded to the delay in the IEBC clearance which was initially slated for Saturday, June 4. Sakaja affirmed that at the time, he was caught up in organising the Kenya Kwanza rally that was held in Kamukunji, Nairobi.

He, however, noted that IEBC had agreed to his request and changed the date to Tuesday, June 7.

"Initially, I was to come on Saturday but since I was in charge of the Nairobi rally, the date was rescheduled to today and I have been cleared," he stated as his supporters cheered him on.

"Our march is unstoppable, our faith unshakeable and our victory is inevitable. We must make Nairobi work, we must restore our city back to its former glory by offering our people, order, dignity, hope, and opportunity for all," he reiterated.

Sakaja now joins the list of candidates who will vie for Nairobi's top seat. Azimio la Umoja's Polycarp Igathe and independent candidate Agnes Kagure have already been cleared.

Concerns had been raised about Sakaja's academic certificates after speculations went rife that he had not graduated from the University of Nairobi (UoN).
