The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has embarked on mass recruitment across the country in a bid to mitigate the biting shortage of tutors in schools.
The commission has declared 5,000 new vacancies and another 8,230 others to replace teachers who have left the service through natural attrition.
3,972 of the recruited teachers will be posted to different secondary schools to assist in the 100 per cent transition policy which was initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta. 1,000 teachers will be posted to primary institutions while teacher training colleges will get 28 tutors. They will be recruited under permanent and pensionable terms.
The recruitment drive will apply affirmative action targeting schools in Mandera, Garissa, and Wajir counties.
The North Eastern county is set to receive 1000 teachers. In a re-advertisement published on Monday, June 27 the Nancy Macharia-led commission said that it was set to hire 764 primary school and 80 secondary school teachers. The posts are on permanent and pensionable terms.
TSC also re-advertised 386 positions with 114 for primary schools and 272 for secondary schools on contractual terms to fill the vacancies in Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir.
"To qualify for recruitment, a candidate should be a Kenyan citizen, be hailing from Garissa, Mandera or Wajir Counties, be teaching under Board of Management in Garissa, Mandera or Wajir Counties," read part of the notice.
How to Apply
The teachers' service commission does not accept paper applications. All their applications are only submitted through their online portal.
According to the TSC portal, all sections must be filled with the required information as prompted.
The applicants are also expected to scan and attach only the required documents. Only original documents should be scanned and uploaded.
For expatriate teachers, they are expected to attach a letter of clearance from the Ministry of Education Vetting Committee.
"It is a serious offense to willfully give false information to the Teachers Service Commission. The law provides that any person convicted of the offense may be fined up to Ksh 100,000 or imprisoned for Twelve (12) months or both according to Section 44 of TSC Act No. 20 of 2012," TSC states.
