Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's chopper on Sunday, July 3, developed mechanical problems while in Suswa, Narok, delaying his flight to Homa Bay.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Kalonzo's personal assistant, Dennis Kavisu, noted that the incident occurred while the former Vice President was headed to Homa Bay to join former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at a rally.

He noted that the Wiper leader was forced to camp in Narok and wait for another helicopter to pick him up to his destination.

Kalonzo's Communications Director Paloma Gatabaki later confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that the former VP had been evacuated by another helicopter and would attend subsequent Azimio rallies in Homa Bay.

She noted that the hitch was noticed by the pilots before the Wiper leader boarded the aircraft.

"You drive a car, there is always an issue with a car somewhere or the other. That is what happened with the chopper but they are on their way and are fine. It was headed in Homa Bay.

"His Excellency (Kalonzo) was not on the flight. He was where he was with his people. He is already in Homa Bay and he is fine," Gatabaki stated.

She further maintained that Kenya has great pilots who were able to detect the mechanical problem before endangering any individual's life.

"We have some of the most brilliantly trained pilots in Africa so if they see something that they are not feeling, they don't even board a flight. They could not even allow the chopper to leave that stage," she added.

Kalonzo was headed to Oyugis where he was a part of the line-up that had been scheduled to hold its first major Azimio rally in Nyanza region.

Earlier, the former VP had noted that he was forced to wait for hours after the plane developed a technical problem.

"Off to join my brother Raila Odinga and the Azimio-One Kenya team in Homabay County after a technicality that forced us to land in Suswa and delayed for some hours," he noted.
