The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has published the faces of six suspects believed to be part of a dangerous gang behind the mysterious killings in Nakuru county.
However, a spot check by Kenyans.co.ke revealed that two of the suspects had appeared on live TV over a month ago as eyewitnesses to a fire incident that claimed the lives of a mother and her two children in Nakuru.
During the interview on Ebru TV on June 2, 2022, the two suspects were interviewed as first responders to the fire incident, detailing the events of the morning fire that gutted down the house in Manyani estate, Nakuru East.
The first suspect alleged that he was alerted by a caretaker to aid in putting out the fire, but found a padlock on the door. He claimed not to know the presence of the mother and her two children inside the burning house.
The second suspect also detailed his side of the story, hailing his solution-based tactics that led to the door being opened. According to the suspect, had he known of the family's presence in the room, he would have capitalised on his prowess and tactics to rescue them.
"As I rushed to the house, I found the door locked with a padlock. A nearby resident came with a pipe and I broke the door enquiring whether there were people inside but was informed that there was nobody in there. As I proceeded to enter the house, it was full of smoke, I recalled how it is acted in movies and lay flat on the floor and started crawling while pulling chairs aside.
"I send my apologies to the family because if I knew the mother and two children were stranded in the house, I would have deployed various tactics to pull them out," one of the suspects stated.
However, a month later, the two 'eyewitnesses' were arrested by the DCI alongside four other accomplices as part of a bloodthirsty gang behind multiple killings in Nakuru.
In a scene extracted from a movie, the DCI put an end to their twisted games and apprehended the gang members.
"Upon the arrest of the mastermind in Keroka, Kisii county, the detectives raided a dwelling house in Nakuru’s Kivumbini area at 3am and pounced on his five accomplices who had fallen into a deep slumber in a mud-walled room.
"The unexpected arrival of the sleuths in the witching hours was a nightmare for the thugs who took time before coming to terms with the reality of the moment, as the hunter finally became the hunted," the DCI wrote on its official Twitter handle.
The detectives gained access through the roof and caught the suspects by surprise. Ceding to the detectives' ambush, the suspects surrendered, were apprehended and taken into custody.
