Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho paid a special visit to his former school, Kathaka Primary School, Kirinyaga county with a promise to give the dilapidated institution a facelift.
Addressing a gathering at the school on Saturday evening, July 9, Kibicho promised to take it upon himself to build an ablution block for teachers at a cost of over Ksh1 million.
He thanked his former teachers for moulding his life at an early age, singling out two elderly tutors at the institution, for their words of advice and encouragement.
"I'm an alumnus of this school and I must participate in making it better for the benefit of the current learners."
"I have a responsibility as a civil servant to educate Kenyans on the electoral process so that they can make the right choice," he stated.
Addressing the issue of security during the August 9, general election, Kibicho noted that over 100,000 police officers would be dispatched across all polling stations to maintain order and ensure a smooth process.
He noted that the Ministry of Interior would work with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for effective coordination.
The Interior PS also poked holes at the claims by Kenya Kwanza coalition members for alleging that chiefs were a part of the 'deep state' scheme to manipulate the upcoming polls.
"The Kenya Kwanza leaders are attacking chiefs who are doing a good job of overseeing the implementation of government programs. Chiefs are government officers and they are not drumming up support for anyone and these politicians should stop meddling in their work," he intimated.
Kibicho noted that their rivals opted to use such tactics to portray themselves as the ideal leaders to save the nation. Alluding to this, Kibicho urged his supporters to reject such narratives from politicians seeking elective seats.
"The leaders have noted that the ground has changed and the majority of voters are now leaning to the Azimio side and that is why they are turning against chiefs to attract sympathy."
The Interior PS currently holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town as well as a Master’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi (UoN).
