Kiambu gubernatorial candidate, Moses Kuria, has denied media reports that he had submitted his name for nomination as a Member of Parliament through his Chama Cha Kazi party.

Taking to his Facebook account, Kuria termed the reports as mere speculations, adding that he was in the gubernatorial race to the end.

“The law is very clear. If you vie for an elective seat, you cannot forward your name for nomination on the party list. It's simply not true that I have forwarded my name to be nominated as an MP,” stated the Gatundu South Legislator.

The lawmaker also expressed optimism that he will win the August 9 polls and might choose to retire from active politics in the unlikely event he losses.

“My single-minded focus is to be elected Governor of Kiambu county and to have William Ruto elected as President. Both outcomes are assured and what remains is a formality. In the very unlikely event, that if I'm not elected, you will not see me in politics again, let alone seeking to be nominated. There is life beyond politics.”

The Elections Act provides that one qualifies for nomination as a Member of Parliament if they are a member of a political party on the date of submitting the party list.

Section 35 of the Elections Act provides that a political party shall submit its party list to IEBC at least 45 days before the date of the General Election.

The party-list, according to the law, shall, however, not contain names of candidates contesting for presidential, governorship, senatorial, county woman representatives, or MCA.

A nomination list is normally reserved for party loyalists and aspirants who lose in nominations and those who are compelled to step down for stronger candidates.

The outspoken lawmaker and his running mate - Faith Mwaura - will face off with seasoned politicians including Paul Kimani Wamatangi of UDA, James Nyoro of Jubilee, William Kabogo Gitau of Tujibebe Wakenya party and Mwende Gatabaki of Safina Party.

Another contestant in the race is the outgoing Thika Town MP, Patrick Wainaina.

Kuria, Kabogo and Wamatangi are all supporting Deputy President William Ruto's presidential candidature in the August 9 polls.
