Deputy President William Ruto roasted Jubilee's Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant, Polycarp Igathe, over his performance during the Nairobi gubernatorial debate held on July 11.

According to the DP, Igathe is just "empty" without affirmative agenda for Nairobi residents.

Ruto compared Igathe 'without his English and spectacles' to another Azimio leader, Maina Kamanda.

"You saw what happened at the gubernatorial debate and can now tell who has a degree and who doesn't. The other guy, if you remove the suit and spectacles, he remains an ordinary guy like Kamanda,” DP Ruto blasted Igathe.

Ruto spoke as he campaigned for Johnson Sakaja, who is seeking to succeed Nairobi governor, Anne Kananu, on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

He slammed the state over pursuit against Sakaja's degree qualification, saying that Igathe's performance during the debate proved otherwise.

Sakaja is not out of the woods yet after the High Court of Uganda on July 15 ordered that investigations into his degree continue.

The court dismissed an application by Team University, where Sakaja allegedly acquired his degree, seeking to bar investigations into the politician's degree saga.

Despite the saga, Ruto campaigned for Sakaja, asking Nairobians to vote for him in masses.

According to DP, the former Nairobi Deputy Governor has no agenda apart from the fluent English that he speaks and wearing spectacles.

Nairobi is a key battle ground for all political outfits eying the top seat, with an extension of all presidential hopefuls.

The county boasts of over 2.2 million votes and latest TIFA polls indicated that Azimio La Umoja flag bearer, Raila Odinga, enjoys more support with 49 percent approval rating compared to his main competitor, Ruto, who has 30 percent.

Roots Party's George Wajackoyah and Justina Wamae had an approval rating of five percent while Agano's David Waihiga and Ruth Mutua scored 0.3 percent.
