Deputy President William Ruto and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya flag-bearer Raila Odinga sent representatives to Greece on the night of Tuesday, July 19, to inspect the printing of presidential ballot papers.

The two other presidential candidates George Wajackoya and David Waihiga Mwaure did not have or failed to assign agents to accompany IEBC officials to Europe.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioner, Juliana Cherera stated that the body granted all four presidential candidates a chance to volunteer officials to accompany the commissioners to Greece to inspect the process of ballot printing.

The officials are expected to visit Inform Lykos S.A company, which was contracted to print ballot papers.

Odinga's Azimio sent lawyer Velma Maumo and former Journalist Ben Agina while Kenya Kwanza failed to disclose the names of the two agents accompanying the IEBC officials.

The agents and IEBC officials were supposed to leave for Greece on Friday last week but could not because of Visa delays.

Raila Odinga's chief agent Saitabao Ole Kanchory noted that Azimio representatives had been given assurance, that the ballot papers will be secure and the photos of the running mate had been printed with regards to the High Court ruling.

The court had ruled earlier that the images of presidential and gubernatorial running mates be included on the ballot papers, following a successful petition by lawyer Mugambi Imanyara.

Cherera stated that the commission had complied with the ruling and assured that it will promote critical information for the media during the polls.

“IEBC is committed to enabling the Media access to information and promoting the critical role that the Media plays in ensuring a free, fair, and credible election.”

The IEBC has provided the party agents with a checklist of the things they want to monitor such as security features on the ballot papers and to conduct due diligence on the deficit and the volume of ballot printing within the company.
