Families of three individuals are mourning the deaths of their loved ones who were killed in a Wednesday evening July 20, crash in Narok.

The incident involved a 14-seater matatu which was destined for Kisi from Nairobi and a lorry that was heading towards the opposite direction.

Confirming the incident, Narok South Sub-County Police Commander Magdalene Chebet told the press that the matatu had 10 passengers when the accident occurred.

Three of the occupants, a woman and two men, were killed on the spot while others sustained injuries.

According to the commander, the accident happened after the driver of the matatu attempted to avoid hitting a motorcycle.

This caused the public service vehicle to roll several times before hitting the lorry that was heading in the opposite direction.

“The matatu was heading towards Bomet and had 10 passengers. The injured were rushed to Longisa County Referral Hospital.

"The bodies of the victims were taken to the mortuary pending identification and post-mortem,” the commander stated as per Nation.

The accident comes barely a week after 67-seater bus overturned at Koru, Kisumu County, leaving over 20 passengers injured.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the 67-seater bus overturned after it attempted to overtake on a continuous yellow line, at a back spot.

Latest statistics by NTSA released in June 2022 indicate that 1,912 people died in road carnage since January this year with the agency expressing fears over the increase in the number of accidents as compared to 2021.

NTSA blamed the rise of road crashes on reckless driving.
