Photos doing rounds of a new smartphone that incorporates a transparent luminous display have caused excitement among many Kenyans online.
The technology, which allows the organic LED screen to display the units of the phone as well as allow light to pass through the phone caused a buzz on the viability of the gadget.
The concept has been a work in progress for over a decade but the initial designs did not fare well in the market forcing giant companies dropping the idea altogether.
However, a London-based company, Nothing Company, stormed the market with the launch of Nothing Phone (1) on July 12, 2022.
According to international market prices, the phone retails at an average price of Ksh60,000 (€500).
Features
The device is covered by a piece of transparent Gorilla Glass 5 that allows users to see inside the smartphone.
Further, the device can operate a vehicle through its operating system and also consists of a non-fungible token (NFT) gallery app that lets a user track the prices of the NFTs.
The phone also consists of glyph technology that acts as a status for certain functions. In order to provide efficiency, the phone's battery can be charged wirelessly at full capacity within an hour.
The phone is fitted with a dual camera which consists of two advanced 50 megapixels sensors.
The call functions and contacts are integrated with Google apps hence providing an efficient way for users to navigate quickly.
"Designed with instinct, to bring joy back to the everyday. Through the Glyph Interface, a perfected OS and exceptional dual camera. All startlingly fast," reads part of the profile.
