Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa on Sunday, July 24, broke silence after an incident where he was caught on camera covertly attending an Azimio rally on Friday, July 22.

The MP indicated that he had been following the events of the rally presided over by Raila Odinga in silence to ensure that his constituents were respected.

He claimed that because of his presence, a significant part of the crowd walked out after Raila made some remarks that he described as demeaning to the residents.

"Raila Odinga, I walked away with your entire crowd. They were unhappy, you abused them and Wamalwa abused me, their leader," he wrote.

Barasa was spotted in the company of three men atop an incomplete building and is immediately recognised by Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eugene Wamalwa who was addressing the crowd.

Wamalwa informed the lawmaker and took a hit, telling him that he would lose his seat because of supporting Kenya Kwanza. The CS went ahead to play audio of UDA flagbearer William Ruto explaining the source of his wealth, inviting Barasa to listen in

"Tell Didmus that since Musalia Mudavadi joined their camp, they are headed right to the opposition. I know he is here, I wanted you to know that you are going home," the CS stated.

On noting that his cover had been blown, Barasa took cover behind a water tank as the Defence CS went on to play the audio.

However, a section of the crowd began tripping out of the grounds and headed towards the direction the man in a red hat and a walking stick had been spotted.

During the rally, Azimio's flagbearer ranted at residents of Kiminini, who are part of the larger Bungoma County over low ranking in a recent opinion poll showing him trailing Ruto.

"The poll indicated that Ruto is at nearly 60 per cent while Raila is at 40 per cent. Shame on you people. I feel very slighted because these are my people," he stated.

Notably, the upward numbers could be attributed to the influence of Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula who doubles as the county senator.

In previous elections, the former Premier has enjoyed majority support in the region during elections, which is being threatened by Kenya Kwanza principals Mudavadi and Wetangula.

The two have been tasked with delivering 70 per cent of the Western region vote to William Ruto.
