On the other hand, Haji earns a gross salary of Ksh765,188, which also covers a house allowance of Ksh150,000 and salary market adjustments of Ksh156,075.

Similar to Chebukati, Haji is entitled to a car loan of Ksh8 million and a mortgage of Ksh35 million.

"The car loan shall be recoverable within the contract term of a state officer. The car loan and mortgage shall be administered and managed centrally by the National Treasury, within existing applicable regulations to govern the schemes, and subject to the availability of funds," read the SRC notice in part.

Just like other senior state officials, Chebukati and Haji enjoy medical benefits alongside their spouses and children below the age of twenty-five years.

They enjoy an inpatient cover of Ksh10 million, outpatient cover of Ksh300,000, maternity cover of Ksh150,000 and Ksh75,000 for dental and optical covers.

Being public officers, the duo is entitled to an official government car of 3000cc and an annual airtime allowance of Ksh240,000.

In regard to the high stake of their responsibility, the security guards allocated to the two are determined by the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai.

Upon leaving office next year, the IEBC boss - who was appointed in 2017 - will get retirement benefits as prescribed by SRC.

"A state officer, serving or appointed for a fixed term of office, shall be paid a service gratuity at the rate of 31 per cent of the annual pensionable emoluments for the term served," SRC stated in part.
