Outgoing Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho and Suna East Member of Parliament, Junet Mohamed, had a hard time calming a crowd in Teso who demanded to be addressed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The Azimio supporters, who were expecting the former Premier to grace the event, were disappointed after they were informed that Raila would not make it to the Wednesday, August 3 meeting.
Consequently, the team - mostly made of youth started shouting 'No baba, no meeting' in protest of Raila's absence.
Amid jeers, Junet explained that the absence of the Azimio presidential candidate was a result of confusion over the venue of the meeting.
The Raila- ally stated the ODM boss had flown to a different venue and would not make it in time to address them.
“We came from Nairobi knowing Raila’s meeting is in Amagoro and not Amukura. We sincerely apologise for what has happened,” he explained.
Joho, on the other hand, promised that he would organise another meeting between Raila and the team from Teso.
“There are leaders who do not mean well for us. Let us be very careful because they are part of the team that has sabotaged this meeting. I will talk to Raila. I will convince him to come to Teso before elections,” he stated.
The meeting had been convened by Teso leaders who were planning to officially endorse Raila for the State House race.
Also present at the meeting was former Westlands MP Fred Gumo and Teso South MP Geoffrey Omuse.
After the meeting ended abruptly, the leaders left for a rally in a nearby school before leaving a mega Azimio rally in Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.
The Azimio team was touring the larger Western Kenya region to popularise the candidature of Raila before the country heads to the polls in five days.
