It is common to get small-sized silica gel packets that resemble salt packets when unpacking a new pair of shoes, a bag, or even clothes. These small packets have a bold 'DO NOT EAT' warning and most people end up throwing them away.

Silica gel packets are desiccant, they absorb moisture from the products protecting them from going bad or being damaged by water vapor. They contain a drying agent that can absorb water through the packaging.

After doing shopping from your local supermarket, you will probably end up with a number of these silica packets. Instead of just tossing them in the trash bin, here are some of the surprising uses of these packets;
