Energy Cabinet Secretary, Ambassador Monica Juma, has assured Kenyans that power will not be interrupted during the August 9 General Election.
Speaking on Friday, August 4, Juma maintained that the electricity supply in all parts of the country will not be limited even after the elections to help Kenyans remain informed on the polls' aftermath.
She dismissed claims raised by Deputy President William Ruto on the alleged plot to cut the power supply in some parts of the country, especially his strongholds.
Juma reiterated that the constitution mandates Ministry of Energy to support other agencies, including the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure a smooth election process.
"Part of the national plan in delivery in an election is to have an infrastructure. Part of that infrastructure is power.
"So we are well aware of this role and it is something we are taking seriously. So there should no worries," Juma stated.
She added that in case of any emergencies and faults, the Kenya Power and Lightning Company will advise Kenyans on time.
The second in command had raised allegations on plans to intentionally cause mass blackouts in some parts of the country.
This is after power outage hit some parts of the country during the presidential debate.
KPLC, explaining the blackout during the presidential debate, noted that the hour-long outage that hit parts of Western, Nyanza, Rift Valley and Nairobi North was occasioned by 'system disturbance.
The utility company explained that the power outage occurred after the Kisumu - Muhoroni high voltage transmission power line tripped several power circuits.
Kenya Power stated that normalcy was restored after system engineers responded promptly and fixed the issue by by 9:07pm.
"A system disturbance at the Kisumu Muhoroni high voltage transmission power line that tripped several power circuits and affected power generation from Muhoroni Gas Turbine Station and Turkwell Hydropower Station," the statement read in part.
"Our system engineers immediately commenced restoration works and normalised power to all areas by 9:07pm. The Company regrets any inconvenience caused."
