A week after Citizen TV poached Serfine Achieng' from Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), Royal Media Services Ltd bigwigs, Yvonne Okwara and Trevor Ombija, officially received her on live TV.

The former KBC journalist was elated to join the team on set for the first time during the real-time tallying of the 2022 General Election results on August 10 at the RMS tallying centre.

"Before we proceed, let us welcome the newest member of team excellence Ms Serfine Achieng'. It is very good to have you on the team," said Okwara.

Sandwiched between Okwara and Ombija, Achieng' shared a light moment before proceeding with the live coverage.

There was visible excitement from the three colleagues during the live coverage of the August 9 presidential polls even as Okwara initiated a drumroll to properly welcome the new member of the team.

"Thank you, I am happy to be here. Being here feels as good as it looks," Achieng' stated in response.

During the Nairobi gubernatorial debate on July 26, Achieng' was one of the moderators with the debate putting her in the spotlight.

Achieng' is among four other journalists who were poached by Citizen TV. Others include Ayub Abdikadir from K24 TV, Mary Muoki from Metropol TV, and Wilkister Nyabwa from CGTN.

Since his transition to Citizen TV, Abdikadir has been active in the ongoing election coverage. He worked at Ebru TV before decamping to K24 TV.

On her part, Nyabwa served as a features reporter at Citizen TV before joining CGTN. Prior to that, she had worked at KTN as a reporter.

On the other hand, Achieng' was part of the new team that joined the national broadcaster KBC when it was rebranding mid 2021.

Citizen TV has been on an offensive raiding other media houses for top talents even as it seeks to strengthen its team.
