The former minister of internal security will succeed Gideon Sitelu Konchellah who vied for the Narok senatorial seat on a Jubilee ticket. He had lost the Kilgoris parliamentary seat to Konchellah in 2002 and has been unsuccessfully trying to make a political comeback.

In 2013, he vied for the Narok senatorial seat and was whitewashed by Stephen Ole Ntutu. His younger sibling Andrew Sunkuli also vied for the same seat.

Elsewhere, Musa Sirma , who served as the minister for East Africa and Regional Cooperation during the late President Moi’s regime also made a political comeback after 15 years in the cold.

Sirma was declared the winner of  the Eldama Ravine parliamentary race after garnering 32, 492 votes.

His closest competitor Emmanuel Bore who was vying as an independent candidate managed 10,299 votes.

Carol Jepkosgei Tallam of KANU settled for third with 3,475 votes while Ngaruiya Caleb Kipchirchir and Kiprop Daniel Kipngetich got 782 and 433 votes to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

Sirma vied for the 2013 and 2017 Eldama Ravine seat  but lost to Moses Lessonet. Prior to the 2013 election, Sirma had cut ties with the current UDA presidential candidate William Samoei Ruto and decided to support Raila Odinga in the race to replace the late president Mwai Kibaki.

He then shifted camps during the 2017 general election and joined the Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee coalition but was defeated by Lessonet during party primaries.

In August last year, Sirma settled his differences with Ruto and decided to back him in his bid to replace the outgoing President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
