The Ministry of Education has flagged a circular claiming that schools will reopen on Monday, August 22.
In a statemate dated Wednesday, August 17, the George Mahoga-led ministry indicated that the circular was fake and should be treated with contempt.
It reiterated that the school resumption date remains Thursday, August 18.
The Ministry acted after parents raised an alarm about the fake circular alleged to have been signed by Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha.
It was noted that the circular had gone viral on social media hence creating confusion among education stakeholders.
Students took a two-week break early in the month to allow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to use schools as polling stations.
However, delays in the announcement of presidential results saw Magoha push the reopening of schools from August 15 to 18. The announcement was made through a circular signed by the CS.
"I hereby convey the Government's decision on the suspension of the re-opening of all Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, August 15, 2022, until Thursday, August 18, 2022," Magoha directed then.
Additionally, while addressing the changes in the school calendar after Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, announced that he would file a petition in court, Magoha assured parents that the school calendar would not be interfered with should there be a repeat election.
He stated that students would stay in school while the voting exercise is undertaken given the tight term dates.
Schools are currently in their second term with Standard 8 and Form Four students expected to sit the national examinations in November.
Grade Six students will also sit the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) during the same period.
