Azimio la Umoja presidential flagbearer, Raila Odinga, met members of the clergy on Saturday, August 20, five days after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, declared William Ruto president-elect in the just concluded General Election.

Raila reiterated the importance of peace in the country, but still maintained that he was dissatisfied with the way Chebukati conducted the election.

He claimed that IEBC carried out the exercise in a shambolic way, stating that the will of the people must be heard and determined by the Supreme Court.

He said his team is preparing for the Supreme Court battle to challenge Ruto's win and that it is through the legal means that the people of Kenya would get what they fought for since independence.

"We want to see justice served for peace to prevail," Raila stated.

With the division that has rocked IEBC, Raila regretted that some of its commissioners could fail to take ownership of the results.

According to the former premier, IEBC had referees with predetermined outcome of the match led by its chief Chebukati, a reason the country is not in a celebratory mood.

"IEBC had referees with different judgment to decide on winner of this election. They were given mandate to oversee election in this country but they have brought shame to the entire nation. This is the reason why the country is not in a celebratory mood despite a winner having been announced," Raila stated.

Present during the meeting was Jackson Ole Sapit, the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Bishop who presided over Ruto's win at the Bomas.

Sapit thanked Raila for seeking legal action through court together with his family and the entire Azimio fraternity, saying this had led to peace in the country.

"This is a family that stands for peace. They have decided to uphold peace by seeking justice through legal means. Let us all be patient as they seek justice through the courts," Sapit stated.

Azimio team has until Monday, August 22 at 2pm to file petition before the Supreme Court, failure to which a committee that has been tasked to oversee transition process shall proceed with handover plans.
