The Ksh10 million 2022 Land Rover Defender with the county government of Nakuru plates and which went viral on social media was recently purchased by the county.
Kenyans.co.ke confirmed that the vehicle that went viral on Thursday, August 25, with plates no GVN032A, was purchased less than two weeks ago.
The state-of-art British-manufactured vehicle was used to ferry the newly sworn-in governor, Susan Kihika, to the handover ceremony at the Nakuru ASK showground. The vehicle also displayed a county flag and emblem.
The vehicle was later used to ferry Kihika to her new offices where she conducted an inspection tour of the facility in the company of her family and campaign staff.
Riding in the vehicle with her was her mother, Alice Kihika, her husband Sam Mburu and security officers attached to her.
Kihika was among the 45 county governors who took oath of office in line with the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act.
The Act dictates that governors-elect should be sworn into office on the first Thursday falling 10 days after the declaration of the election outcomes by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Notably, outgoing governor Lee Kinyanjui, who was the second county boss, skipped the swearing-in ceremony where he should have physically handed over the instruments of power to his successor.
Kihika became the first female governor elected in Nakuru county since the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
She was among the seven female governors elected in the August 9 General Election.
Others include Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Kawira Mwangaza (Meru), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Cecily Mbarire (Embu), Fatuma Achani (Kwale) and Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos).
Members of Parliament (MPs) and Woman Representatives elected also attended the induction ceremony at the National Assembly.
