The National Youth Service (NYS) has made changes to recruitment dates in areas that are yet to conduct gubernatorial or parliamentary elections.
According to NYS, the Monday, August 29 date announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) for two gubernatorial and several parliamentary elections coincide with the recruitment exercise.
This has forced the NYS to reschedule the recruitment dates to avoid conflicting with the polls.
"The recruitment exercise has been rescheduled from Monday, August 29 to Saturday, September 3 at 8.00am to avoid any conflicts," read the NYS statement in part.
The affected areas in Kakamega county include the Kongoni Primary School recruitment center in Likuyani sub-county and the Bukhungu Stadium recruitment center in Lurambi sub-county.
In Kitui county, St. Luke Secondary School, Kyusami recruitment center in Lower Yatta sub-county has been affected by the polls.
The recruitment exercise in West Pokot's St. Kizito Primary school and Lelan recruitment centre located in South Pokot (Kibichbich) sub-county have been postponed.
"Due to the decision by IEBC to conduct elections on Monday, August 29 in the areas that did not participate in the just concluded 2022 General Election, the exercise coincides with the planned recruitment of NYS Volunteer Servicemen and women in several areas," NYS stated.
IEBC chairman, Wanyonyi Wafula Chebukati, announced the new changes in postponed elections that affected several areas owing to mix-up in printing of ballot papers.
The countrywide exercise program to recruit volunteer servicemen and women to join the NYS was announced on Tuesday, August 16.
It was scheduled to commence on Monday, August 29, and conclude on Saturday, September 3.
Interested and qualified candidates are advised to log into the official NYS website to check recruitment dates for their respective sub-counties and recruitment centres.
The National Youth Service has 374 recruitment centres spread across the country.
The NYS trains youths to help meet the Big Four Agenda that involves food security and nutrition, affordable housing, manufacturing, and affordable healthcare.
