Deputy President-elect, Rigathi Gachagua, has accused Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, of allegedly blocking Moses Wetangula's gazettement as Bungoma Senator in a bid to stop him from becoming the National Assembly Speaker.

Speaking during a church service at Christ the King Cathedral in Bungoma, on Sunday, August 28, Gachagua claimed that Kibicho instructed the government printer to delay the publishing of the Gazette Notice.

He told the outgoing PS that Wetangula's ascend to Parliament was inevitable and not even he (Kibicho) would tamper with the process.

"I want to tell Kibicho, for four and a half years, you tried to stop Ruto but he has been elected as the President. Now you want to stop Wetangula from becoming the Speaker of the National Assembly (NA).

"You have instructed the government printer to stop publishing the gazettement of Senators. I want to tell you that it is inconsequential in matters electing the speaker of the NA," Gachagua reverted.

The former Mathira Member of Parliament further appreciated the people of Bungoma County for delivering their vote to president-elect, William Ruto, despite the Azimio wave that swept across the Western Kenya region.

He drew parallels between the Bungoma voters to those from the Mount Kenya region, terming them as people who keep their word. The former Mathira lawmaker pledged to return the favour.

"In Kenya Kwanza, we have agreed that Wetangula should lead us  in the National Assembly. His eloquence, oratory skills and school of thought makes him the best placed to become the Speaker," Gachagua remarked.

On his part, the Senator-elect pledged his continued support for Ruto even as Kenyans wait for the Supreme Court ruling following the petition challenging his win.

The Ford Kenya party leader will square it out with Wiper Democratic Movement party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, for the Speaker of National Assembly seat.

Among the qualifications to run for Speaker is that the candidate must be an advocate of the High Court. In addition, they must meet the requirements for one to become a Member of Parliament.

However, being an elected Senator, Wetangula will have to resign from his office for him to succeed Justin Muturi as the national Assembly's boss.
