On Wednesday, August 31, the Supreme Court of Kenya headed by Chief Justice Martha Koome officially kicked off the hearing of the presidential petition filed by Azimio La Umoja flagbearer, Raila Odinga and his running mate, Martha Karua.

The first order of business was hearing presidential petition number five which consolidated petitions numbers one, two, three , four, seven and eight in 2022.

Raila Odinga and seven others are seeking the annulment of William Ruto's victory. The former Prime Minister sued the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) which declared Ruto the president-elect and his first relief, seeking a recount of the ballots was honoured by the court during the pre-conference held on Tuesday, August 30.

The team of counsels headed by James Orengo representing the former Prime Minister, who is the main petitioner in the suit, were given a chance to present its case.
