Drama ensued at the home of the outgoing Kakamega senator, Cleophas Malala after police who raided his home clashed with his mother, Martha Malala.

An agitated Mama Malala dared the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers camping at the home to arrest her and further accused them of being used to frustrate the son.

She questioned why the DCI officers had raided the home yet her son had conceded defeat.

Mama Malala also argued that the officers harboured a sinister motive as they proceeded to break into the house despite being informed that the politician was not in the vicinity.

"We learnt that the police were here when we were at home. Cleo is young and he has a long way to go.

"Why do they want to arrest my son? As a mother I can not stand this kind of intimidation," she stated and demanded to know what charges they wanted to pin on her son.

While confronting the police, she lamented that she was ready to switch places with her son and go to jail.

The witchhunt, she claimed, was orchestrated by the outgoing Kakamega governor, Wycliffe Oparanya, who she alleged has been tormenting her son.

Mama Malala stated that if her son had won the election he would not have intimidated his opponents. The senator's family called upon Azimio La Umoja leaders led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to reign in on their leaders arguing that threats and intimidation will further divide the country.

They also pleaded with President-elect William Ruto to ensure that state organs are not used to intimidate political opponents.

Malala's legal team added that they were not privy to the orders issued calling for his arrest.

The team's representative Grace Mburu noted that they were consulting with the police over his pending arrest.

"I have not seen any arrest warrant. What we are sure of is that this witchhunt arises from the elections that have just been carried out which we feel is a bit unfair.

"We seem to be the only ones who have been targeted.  But we are still sorting this out as a legal team and we may not say anything that may go on record at this time," Mburu stated.
