Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have raided Cleophas Malala's house after a manhunt was launched for the outgoing Kakamega senator.

Speaking outside his Milimani, Kakamega house, on Thursday, September 1, Malala's legal team stated that they were not privy to the orders issued.

A representative of the team further added that they were in consultation with the police as they sought clarity on his pending arrest.

"I have not seen any arrest warrant. What we are sure of is that this witchhunt arises from the elections that have just been carried out which we feel is a bit unfair.

"We seem to be the only ones who have been targeted.  But we are still sorting this out as a legal team and we may not say anything that may go on record at this time," Grace Mburu, the representative addressed the media.

Malala's legal team as well stated that the detectives did not provide them with an arrest warrant.

"As a woman at this point, it is good to ensure that the Malala's kids are not in the house in case of any forceful entries into the premises.

"Unfortunately, we are also in the dark and are waiting to see why the DCI are here. We are yet to establish whether the Senator is also in the house," Mburu added.

The raid comes a few days after Malala lost to ODM's Fernandes Barasa in the Kakamega gubernatorial race.

Barasa garnered 192,929 votes with Malala of the Amani National Congress (ANC) coming second with 159, 508 votes.

"I congratulate the governor-elect, Fernandes Barasa and his team. The win is deserved and indisputable. I also laud IEBC for conducting free, fair, credible and verifiable elections.

"There is no vote that was rigged and I thank IEBC for doing a good job," Malala stated.
