Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, has stated that institutions seeking to offer junior secondary school must have science laboratories prior to being cleared by the government.
Speaking in Kericho County on September 3, Magoha stated that the new requirement targets schools in the private sector as a majority of public schools already meet this criterion.
He added that the ministry had already held discussions with owners of private schools over the same who promised to comply with the requirement before January 2023.
Magoha's statement comes days after the ministry extended the selection of junior secondary schools by Grade Six students by 10 days.
The first Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) cohort is set to join junior secondary in January after sitting national examinations in November 2022.
In regard to changing the school calendar over possible re-election, Magoha insisted that students will not be interfered with regardless of the decision made by the Supreme Court.
Students would sit exams as earlier scheduled as teachers were stepping up their efforts to complete the syllabus on time.
Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) are set to begin in November and run through December 2022.
Earlier on, Magoha indicated that students would stay in school in the event of a re-run.
"The students can be asked to play games and stay in their hostels while other Kenyans exercise their democratic right in the other part of the school," he stated then.
Students stayed at schools during the recently concluded August 29 Mombasa and Kakakmega gubernatorial polls.
