Police based in Kiambu and Nairobi have launched a joint operation after a former governor's aide was hijacked and his Land Rover Discovery used to carry out over ten robberies in just one night.
According to a police statement, the aide was carjacked on Wednesday, September 14, after dropping off his friend who resides in Ruaka estate.
The armed assailants bundled him in the boot and took control of the car which was used to rob other motorists in Nairobi between 11 pm and 5 am on Thursday, September 15.
"They’d use my car to block other motorists and, thereafter, rob their victims at gunpoint," he stated.
"Upon robbing the victims of their valuables, they’d speed off," the aide explained.
In his statement, which was confirmed by Kiambu County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Officer Richard Mwaura, one businessman was shot dead by the suspects.
"We took the slain businessman’s body to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital for autopsy," Mwaura told the Standard.
The aide survived after the robbers, who had face masks, threw him out of the Land Rover Discovery while celebrating their windfall.
Surveillance cameras last captured the Land Rover Discovery at Pangani Shopping Centre in Nairobi at around 5:45 am on Thursday.
This incident comes just days after DCI launched a manhunt for attackers who shot a businessman in Ruiru, Kiambu County who passed away trying to save his girlfriend.
According to a DCI statement dated Monday, September 11, the attackers had trailed the businessman and his girlfriend from an entertainment joint.
"They had been followed by a silver Toyota Prado TX that the assailants used as their getaway vehicle," DCI's statement read in part.
"Investigations into the early morning murder have since been launched and detectives are following crucial leads to unravelling the suspects behind the murder most foul."
