Before Daring Abroad show debuted on KTN News channel, Alex Chamwada, the CEO of Chams Media, had relentlessly tried to track down business mogul James Mwangi to sponsor the program.
The veteran journalist had on several occasions tried to reach Dr. Mwangi through his cell phone and through his personal assistant, Alex Muhia but his efforts bore no fruits.
After KTN accepted the show in 2015, Chamwada luckily met the business magnet in the streets of New York City and got the opportunity to sell his idea in just two minutes.
"He gave me an opportunity to pitch my idea, I had really internalised it. He said, Alex, you have it, and I had a deal in hand. That was a big boost to the show," he recounted.
Almost seven years after the show aired, Chamwada shared his journey, which was not a walk in the park.
"When I was conceptualising the Daring Abroad show, I started looking for James Mwangi, for a sponsorship. But it was not easy to meet Mwangi due to his busy schedule," Chamwada recalled.
"I continued to call or text him occasionally, but he would respond very rarely," the journalist added.
Despite failing to get to the business executive directly, Chamwada was grateful to Muhia who was helpful.
He urged Kenyans to be patient when pitching ideas to investors. Additionally, he encouraged them to be open-minded and relentless.
"I needed him more than he needed me. James loves my production which he always terms as extraordinary, inspiring, and informative. Remember it is not easy to sell a new idea," Chamwada added.
Furthermore, the Chams Media founder shared Dr. Mwangi's view of the show.
"In New York, he told me Alex you are very patient, very patient, and respectful. He was courteous and explained his busy schedule," the journalist stated.
In the show that now airs on NTV, Chamwada documents the success stories of Kenyans living abroad. His show was inspired by the vast contacts and network he had made in his career as a journalist.
