Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has given 43 clubs an ultimatum over their operations or face closure.

Speaking on his behalf on Tuesday, October 11, Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri reinstated the joints' licenses on condition that they complied with the set regulations.

In a meeting with the Bar Owners Association, Muchiri maintained that the bars and restaurants should not interfere with the livelihood of other Kenyans.

"Our manifesto is to enable businesses to thrive but you must not infringe on residents’ rights.

"We have a duty and an obligation to ensure we create a conducive environment for businesses of all sizes to operate,” the Deputy County boss remarked.

Muchiri further called on the business owners to consistently engage their neighbours and residents' associations to address any concerns to avoid conflict witnessed in recent months.

This, he argued, would provide a permanent solution to the strife between residents and the bar and club proprietors - a directive welcomed by BOA chair Mike Muthama.

Muthama proposed that the associations be included in the organs managing the bar and clubs, vowing to tame the businesses in the metropolitan area.

"We are ready to self-regulate under the guide of the county government, we also need to have residence association included in the sub-county liquor licensing committee,” he assured.

Earlier, Citizen TV anchor Trevor Ombija was forced to clarify a viral video in which he recounted how he offered to soundproof the entire house of a resident in Kileleshwa.

Ombija revealed how the resident frustrated his effort of addressing her concerns and insisted that the joint be shut down despite the management toning down the noise.

He argued that while some of the concerns were genuine, others were meant to undermine local businesses.
