Police opened fire in a dramatic chase of robbers in the morning of Wednesday, October 12  after three armed thugs in private car at Kamandura confronted a lorry driver in Limuru along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The driver, Remson Mwaura,  was transporting his goods from the potato-rich highlands of Molo towards Kajiado before he was stopped.

Two men who were hanging precariously on the vehicle’s doors jumped onto the tarmac road and went straight to the lorry’s cabin where they ordered the driver of the lorry to disembark.

The driver heeded their call, but as he was alighting from the lorry he threw flying kicks at two robbers sending them across the road.

Before the third robber could come to terms with the sudden turn of events he was met with a powerful blow that send him near the lorry.

The driver then drove towards a petrol station,100 metres from the scene of the incident. However, one of the thugs came back and attempted to stab him in the right leg forcing the driver to run for his dear life.

At the petrol station, he met a guard who assisted him in contacting detectives based at DCI offices in Tigoni, and after getting brief details on the lorry, the detectives responded swiftly.

The sleuths later intercepted the lorry at Murengeti and flagged but the thugs  disembarked from the moving lorry.

As the detectives tried to pursue the robbers they opened fire and arrested one suspect  and processed him for arraignment.

However, detectives are still pursuing the two accomplices who escaped with gunshot injuries.
