KBC Sports Anchor Caren Kibett won the prestigious Best TV Personality of the year at the Zikomo Africa Awards 2022 in Lusaka, Zambia.
Caren bagged the coveted award on Saturday, October 15 after being shortlisted under two categories; Best TV Personality of the Year and Best Journalist of the Year.
The media personality took to social media to express her excitement, thanking her family for their personal sacrifices towards her career.
“I dedicate this award to my family especially my Mum without whom, I would not be here today. Your painstaking personal sacrifices have paid off,” Kibett stated.
She also thanked her boss, Samuel Maina and the Kenya sports fraternity for their unwavering support.
“To my Great Boss, Mr Samuel Maina, Wonderful colleagues, and the Kenya sports fraternity, I’m forever grateful and eternally indebted to you for the lessons and for believing in me,”
The sports anchor with the national broadcaster further lauded her fans who have been watching her segments, promising to scale up the standards of journalism.
“I salute you. To the ever-patient, probing and loving viewers in Kenya and beyond, who have welcomed me to their living rooms and social spaces invited, I can’t thank you enough. God bless you. I promise to scale up the sterling standards of sports journalism,”
Prior to joining KBC, Caren worked at K24 from 2017 before she was fired by the Media Max, in June 2020
Caren, a self-proclaimed Marakwet Express, boasts a promising career that includes interviews with sports personalities such as United States sprinter Justin Gatlin, South African footballer Siphiwe Tshabalala and javelin star Julius Yego.
During the Zikomo Awards, Citizen TV's Lulu Hassan also bagged the Zikomo Africa Award in the Category of Best Movie/Series producer of the year Africa.
The Zikomo Awards is an annual International Award ceremony held in Lusaka Zambia that acknowledges and celebrates individuals and organisations contributing positively and doing well in various industries, including art and entrepreneurship.
Additionally, the Zikomo Awards recognise humanitarians who extend a helping hand to the needy in the society.
