Former NMG Boss Tom Mshindi Lands County Government Job

Former Nation Media Group (NMG) Editor-in-Chief and Executive Director, Tom Mshindi has been appointed as a director in the Trans Nzoia County Govt.

In a press release dated Friday, October 14, Governor George Natembeya announced that Mshindi would serve as the Director of Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation if the county.

"Subject to concurrence by the County Public Service Board, I have made the following nominations," read the statement in part.

Mshindi is currently a Consulting editor and writer who features in the Daily Nation Newspaper as well as the Nation digital platform as a columnist.

The media guru doubles as a Managing Partner at Blue Crane Global consulting. He boasts an illustrious career in the media industry spanning 25 years.

Mshindi joined NMG in September 2009 before climbing the ranks to Chief Operating Officer and then Executive Director. Prior to his role at the Kimathi-street-based media house, he served as Managing Director of Monitor Publications, Uganda.

Between 2003 and 2006, he was the Standard Media Group as Chief Executive Officer. The media guru was elected as the Vice Chairperson of the Media Owners Association for two terms.

Outside the industry, he was a member of the University of Nairobi (UoN) Council, where he chaired the procurement sub-committee.

Mshindi also worked with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) as the communications manager and editor, serving in New York and West Africa.

He joins other media personalities who have been tapped by county governments following the August 9 General election.

Others include Royal Media Services (RMS) radio programmes manager, Charles Odhiambo who was appointed as the Chief of Staff in the Homa Bay County government.

On September 15, Citizen TV's Nicky Gitonga was appointed by Governor Fatuma Achani as the Communications Director and Spokesperson for Kwale County.
