UPDATE Monday, October 17: All the portal services by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) were fully restored.

The Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) had been affected by a fibre cut.

Kenyans were on Monday, October 17, unable to access services on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) online portal.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a source confirmed that Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) was temporarily offline following a fibre cut connected to NTSA.

Some of the services affected include driver testing and licensing, Vehicle registration, inspections as well as the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) portals.

"Our service provider has experienced a fibre cut thus affecting access to all our service portals," read the statement by NTSA in part.

The source could not confirm how long the services would remain unavailable explaining that the fibre cable was supplied to NTSA by a third party.

The revamped TIMS system was developed in June 2021 and aimed at harmonising and synchronising the digital system.

It provides information regarding all vehicles on Kenyan roads.

In June 2022, NTSA also acquired a new state-of-the-art data center and migrated its servers to the new facility.

At the time, its management noted that the new system was aimed at enhancing efficiency, through better speeds and accessibility especially in a digital era.

"As part of our digital transformation strategy and service reform agenda, aimed at delivering high quality services and customer service excellence, the Authority is currently making a transition to a new enterprise data centre.

"We acknowledge the transition has occasioned slight disruptions to our clients and we are working round the clock to complete the process," read the statement in part.

The system upgraded NTSA's capability to aid in real-time road safety monitoring and reporting.
