Officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) took over the case involving an Eastleigh trader, and her competitor after a viral video of the former assaulting the latter went viral.
The detectives acted upon direct orders from the Director of Criminal Investigation, Amin Mohamed. The new DCI boss directed the Nairobi officers to take up the matter and serve justice to the victim.
A manhunt was thus launched for the woman who was recorded hammering the trader inside one of the business premises in Eastleigh.
The sleuths who issued the assailant's arrest warrant on Monday, October 17, argued that she was a flight risk.
Before vanishing, the perpetrator allegedly shared the video on social media after the incident occurred, sparking uproar from a section of Kenyans who urged the DCI to intervene.
The matter was later reported at Eastleigh North Police Post.
"Our officers have been trying to arrest the offenders. One is in custody, and the case is now being handled by the sub-county Criminal Investigation Office.
"We are still trying to locate other suspects, and I'm sure it is just a matter of time before we arrest them," stated Fredrick Abuga, Starehe sub-county police boss.
Speaking to the media, the victim claimed that the incident happened on Sunday, October 16, when she was running daily errands at her store.
She further alleged that the suspect ambushed and assaulted her owing to their business rivalry.
"I related well with my customers, something which did not augur well with her since our businesses are adjacent.
"I'm still in fear because the people who assaulted me are still at large and are threatening me. My fear can only end when the perpetrators are brought into book," she stated and asked law enforcement officers to expedite the probe.
The victim reportedly sustained injuries on the face, head and hands, according to medical reports.
