Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday, October 18, revealed that he is worth Ksh544 million

Appearing before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments for vetting in Parliament, Kindiki noted the wealth derived from various sources of income.

"At the moment, I am an advocate at the High Court, where I practise Law.

"I am also a business person running a number of businesses, SMEs and I'm also a consultant for local and international organisations," he stated.

He broke down his sources of income, indicating his investments in shares and real estate were among his major financial dealings.

"It's made up of land and buildings of around Ksh165 million, bank deposits of about Ksh50 million, investment in shares, and deposits in five different saccos," he noted.

During the vetting process, Kindiki failed to provide his National Identification Card, citing a communication breakdown.

He, however, noted that he had sent for the document and which would be delivered to the committee before the conclusion of the vetting process.

"I forgot my ID but I have sent for it and it is on the way," he stated.

While detailing his resume and extensive career in the legal profession, Kindiki noted that he was the right fit to take up the Interior Cabinet slot and address key issues facing the public and security sectors.

"I have practised law for 22 years, and I am listed in the list of counsel licenced to practise law at the International Criminal Court (ICC)," he stated.

National Assembly leader of the majority, Kimani Ichung'wa, however, asked Kindiki to break down his illustrious academic career, noting that it could act as his Achilles heel in the long term.

"Prof. Kindiki, you'll forgive me but your predecessor also came from academia like yourself, and we've seen him exercise power with a lot of hubris and arrogance, especially towards members of parliament, even in committees like this one," Ichung'wa explained.

In a rejoinder, the CS nominee noted that he would operate with humility and submit himself to authority in a bid to effectively execute his mandate.
