The gruesome murder of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya has attracted backlash from the international community prompting many calling for a thorough investigation.

While a majority of foreigners in the country manage to travel back home unharmed, a small percentage is abducted or deported and others meet their untimely death on foreign soil.

After the disappearance of two Indian nationals said to have been a part of President William Ruto's campaign team, questions continue to arise over its effect on the diplomatic ties.

Sharif was shot dead in a case of mistaken identity on Sunday, October 23 at around 10 pm in Kajiado West Sub-county.

The Pakistan High Commissioner to Kenya Saqlain Syedah denied claims that the journalist was in the country because he was facing political persecution in Pakistan clarifying that he flew for holiday.

Both governments have been urged to launch a thorough investigation and apprehend the culprits.

In 2021, Gulen, who had fled to Kenya, was allegedly abducted and deported to Turkey despite a court order preventing the deportation.

He was wanted in his mother country for allegedly being part of a terror group and was later sentenced to three years and four months in prison in March 2021.

In November 2021, the businessman from Ethiopia was abducted in broad daylight along Loitoktok road while passers-by recorded the incident.

Samson wrestled with the abductors as he was being pulled out of his vehicle and taken to an unknown destination.

In February 2022, the Ethiopian government sought an explanation of the whereabouts of the tycoon from Kenyan authorities. To date, there is no word about his abduction.

The Nigerian leader fled the West African country in 2017 while out on bail over terrorism and incitement charges.

While in Nairobi, Nnamdi also disappeared and only emerged in handcuffs in Nigeria in 2021. He flew to Kenya using a UK passport after renouncing his Nigerian citizenship.

However, the Kenyan and Nigerian authorities denied involvement in the kidnapping and deportation.

Nnamdi is currently in detention on orders from the Federal Government in Nigeria. However, the Court of Appeal demanded his release from detention.

The two Indian nationals were part of President Ruto's campaign team in the run-up to the August 9 elections before their abductions.

There are allegations that the two, alongside their driver, were abducted by the members of the disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) attached to the DCI.

Police officials have launched investigations into the incident.
